The third strip
|
The same as last year, we have to wear the 3rd kit at least once or pay a penalty to FA. The club decide to fob it off for FA Cup games (even if we are at home???), but we are away to Everton... somehow cannot see the shirt being used for this match. So if we lose, which with our record there is a distinct probability, not even possibility, I suppose we will wait until the last away game of the season to wear it.
Good planning as always.

West Ham United will be turning out in their smart purple, gold and black third kit for next Tuesday's FA Cup replay against Everton - and throughout their FA Cup campaign.*
Following the 1-1 draw at Goodison Park, the teams will have to do battle again at the Boleyn Ground for the right to take on Doncaster Rovers or Bristol City in the fourth round.
The limited edition kit, which launched in the summer, has already proven to be a huge hit with supporters and you will need to act quickly to get your hands on one - with only 2,000 of the 4,000 produced still available to buy.
When they're gone, they're gone, so this FA Cup kit is sure to become a collector's item amongst Hammers fans!
The kit features adidas performance fabrics ClimaCool and ClimaLite technology, a mixture of heat and moisture controlling materials, ventilation channels and 3D fabrics which improve air flow to the skin and in key heat zones. Adult shirts retail at just £49.99 with shorts at £19.99 now's the time to get kitted out for Tuesday!
Head to officialwesthamstore.com to purchase the kit now or visit any of our Official Club Stores - Stadium, Liberty Romford, Lakeside Thurrock or Eastgate Basildon.
The Hammers have a proud tradition of FA Cup success whilst wearing their change kits, having triumphed 1-0 against Arsenal in the 1980 FA Cup final whilst clad in white and Big Sam's men will be hoping that serves as a good omen as they look to progress against Everton at the second time of asking.
*The third kit will be worn in all home and away FA Cup matches in the 2014/15 season, apart from where there is a kit clash. Third kit and shorts are available in adult sizes only.

This could be our lucky kit - what happens if we embarrass Everton wearing it, smash Doncaster in the next round wearing it, get drawn away again in the next round against a team in dark blue and only scrape a draw in claret and blue, before thrashing the same opponents while wearing purple, gold and black?
And so on, until we carry home the Cup in PGB?
It'll replace C+B...
"Samuel Allardyce's Purple, Black and Gold Army?"
It'll be West Ham, but not as we know it.

I quite like the 3rd kit. Home and away should be more traditional colours, leaving our 'FA Cup kit' to be an adventurous break from the norm.
Even so, I won't be buying it. Hank loves his, on the other hand...

I'm also not aware of it - Clubs are required to register a third kit, but I've never heard (other than on here) that it HAS to be worn.
I'm sure the Cup idea was just to justify it a bit more with the fans.

'It should have been the Cup away kit from the start'
Yeah, totally agree. I don't know if this rule about having to wear a third kit at least once actually exists but I'm guessing it does hence them making it the cup kit. Had we lost last night I'm assuming we'd have worn it last game of the season instead.

To be honest Buster - I've got no idea. But as their home shirt should be suitable, I'd find it odd that they'd wear their away just for us to market an oddball shirt.
It should have been the Cup away kit from the start if they were that determined to wear it more than once at some away game somewhere.

Why would the away side have to agree to wearing their away kit? Surely as the home side we tell them what we're wearing and they then wear what they're told?
The club have clearly announced this monstrosity is the 'FA Cup kit' so I can't see how we won't wear it next week.

Serious question to those that have bought this shirt....
Does it matter if it never gets worn by the team?
What difference does it make if it does?
